It’s a list of words that store all the information needed to recover crypto funds on-chain. Wallet software will typically generate a seed phrase and instruct a user to write it down on paper. If the user’s phone breaks or gets lost, they can download the same wallet app again and use the paper backup to get their cryptos back. Anybody else who discovers the phrase can steal the cryptos, so it must be kept safe.
Your private key is stored locally on your mobile device. If you change to a new mobile, you will need to recover your wallet through the backup phrase.
If you delete your wallet from your old mobile without backing up the seed phrase, you will lose everything in that wallet, and there is no way to recover it.
